Jinnah: His successes, failures and role in history by
Ishtiaq
Ahmed
Those
who think that the hindsight of history confirms the two- nation theory,
the counter argument is available and was also what Jinnah shared.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah began his career as an Indian nationalist where even
before joining the Congress party he was critical of the partition of
Bengal as a Bombay politician or public figure. Jinnah thought that
dividing Bengal on the basis of religion was a stab in the back of
growing Indian nationalism. Ahmed further stated that there is enough
evidence that Jinnah was a prominent member of the Congress Party and
was respected and led several delegations on the party’s behalf.
It
was in fact also the Indian National Congress which provided the support
for getting the Lucknow Pact passed. This gave Muslims more seats than
their population. That is when he was celebrated as an ambassador of
Hindu-Muslim brotherhood
