Youngest Mayor in America Inaugurated at 7 Months Old While Wearing a Tuxedo in Texas

The honorary mayor role is auctioned off to the highest bidder each year during the Whitehall Volunteer Fire Department's annual BBQ Fundraiser. On October 20, Charlie became this year's winner, beginning his year-long term of service to Whitehall and the surrounding community, according to an invitation to his inauguration.

A 7-month-old baby became the youngest mayor in America this weekend after he was inaugurated as the honorary Mayor of Whitehall, Texas.

William Charles "Charlie" McMillian, otherwise known as Mayor Charlie, donned a tuxedo as he appeared in front of roughly 150 guests celebrating his appointment at the Whitehall Community Center on Sunday afternoon.

Mayor Charlie's swearing in ceremony comes after he was "elected" in October to serve the local communities in Grimes County

One attendee, Josh Fultz, 41, a councilman for the nearby Texas town of Navasota, told Newsweek that Charlie "stood on the podium" with his adoptive parents Chad and Nancy McMillian at around 4.30 p.m. as members of the local community witnesses his inauguration.

"He just sat there and kind of goo-goo-ga-ga'd over the people that were all around, like a happy little kid," Fultz said, adding that the event included a band that played patriotic music, performances from a local high school dance group and a mock secret service.

"The whole event was well-planned out by his parents. It was like any inauguration you could imagine, just on a much smaller scale," he explained. "Everybody was wanting to hold him and walk around with him and the love that was in the air was very strong. We're in a difficult time in our country's history and Mayor Charlie is helping to bring peace and kindness back into the community. That's really the whole goal."

Charlie's adoptive mother, Nancy, told Newsweek that Charlie is tolerant of all partisan groups and proudly touts the political slogan, "Make America Kind Again."

India's River Diversion Plan and South Asia's Waters

More dams are to come, as India’s need to power its economy means it is quietly spending billions on hydropower in Kashmir. The Senate report totted up 33 hydro projects in the border area with Pakistan. The state’s chief minister, Omar Abdullah, says dams will add an extra 3,000MW to the grid in the next eight years alone. Some analysts in Srinagar talk of over 60 dam projects, large and small, now on the books.
